Firm Foundation Family Services invites Loudoun County parents and teens to a free, community-focused conversation about technology, teen development, and healthy habits—at school, at home, and beyond.
With evolving expectations around student device use during the school day, many families are navigating new questions about boundaries, balance, and emotional well-being. While LCPS Policy 8655 (“bell to bell”) provides important context, this event is designed to focus on practical guidance and real-life strategies families can use every day.
This one-hour event includes:
A short talk from Carrington on technology, kids, and healthy habits (beyond policy alone)
A guided panel discussion with professionals and local experts
Open Q&A with parents and teens
What We’ll Explore
Healthy technology habits for teens
Supporting emotional and academic well-being
Navigating device boundaries at home
Understanding school-day technology expectations
Creating productive conversations between parents and teens
Who Should Attend
Parents, caregivers, and middle and high school students. All Loudoun County families are welcome.
This event is free and open to the community, and questions are encouraged.
About LCPS Policy 8655
In April 2025, Virginia passed a state law restricting student use of personal technology during the school day. Loudoun County Public Schools updated Policy 8655 in response, incorporating community feedback. The School Board approved the updated policy in December 2025, with implementation beginning in January 2026.
The policy defines “bell to bell” as the entire instructional day, from the first bell to dismissal, and includes devices such as smartphones, smart watches, and tablets.
