Finding Balance in Transition
Hello Friends,
With the weather in both the 30s and the 70s this week, it’s a little hard to tell what time of year it really is! But no matter what the forecast, at Firm Foundation Family Services (3FS) we are committed to helping our clients find the steady anchor in the midst of disorienting change. If you’re feeling out of sorts, give us a call anytime.
In February we launched new efforts to engage our local Loudoun County community. Our outreach continues on March 16 at 7pm with a seminar at Rust Library in Leesburg. I will be speaking about modern parenting and the proliferation of AI companions among children and teens. See our flyer for more information and join us for an engaging evening of discussion and Q&A.
In addition, we are looking to expand our offerings at 3FS with art therapy group sessions, facilitated by our very own Certified Art Therapist, Chia-Hua Lu. If you are interested to learn more or would like to be kept informed as workshop dates get confirmed, please sign up here.

Dear Gen Z
There is no such thing as a doomed generation, because generations are collections of individual people who have choices. You may not choose the circumstances of your life, but you choose the attitude with which you live.

The Myth of Artificial Intelligence: Why Computers Can’t Think the Way We Do
by Erik J. Larson
“Our AI culture has simplified ideas about people, while expanding ideas about technology.” (p. 3)
In this technical yet fascinating read, Larson articulates the distinction between human and machine intelligence and where modern AI enthusiasts blur those lines. This book challenges our assumptions about what makes something “smart,” offering insights on how to preserve the great asset of human intelligence.

TIPS FOR HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Keep in mind the simplicity and utility of the 5 senses. We are embodied creatures designed for seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling.
Look your loved one in the eye when you speak with them.
Light a scented candle to enhance a room.
Take a walk as you enjoy a conversation.
Cook together, paint a watercolor, or pick wildflowers.
Share a hug, hold hands, or offer a gentle encouraging touch.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” - Matthew 6:19-21
Friends, the challenges of expanding our network, planning relevant outreach events, serving our clients, and making ourselves known in the local community are many and sometimes daunting. We are grateful for your support, your partnership, and your referrals. We welcome your feedback and look forward to growth to come.
Walking with you,
Carrington
