Finding Hope Through Faith and Professional Support

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  - Psalm 119:105

Have you ever felt like God is far away and out of reach?

Have you ever questioned if God has abandoned you or wondered if He really cares?

Christians can feel very alone during struggles, whether you are going through a transition in life or experiencing anxiety and/or multiple different mental health conditions. You may try to talk with a friend or pastor and they ask, “Have you prayed?” Or even more pointedly, "Are there any sins in your life that require you to repent?”

Though typically well intentioned, these questions can sometimes cause even more pain.

It is as if no one understands, and that puts you back in the spiral of hopelessness. “Yes,” I have heard many Christians say, “I pray every day, and I read the Bible constantly. I just can’t make this go away!” We hear you, and you are in the right place. We live in a broken world. Carrying baggage from the past means life in the present is hard sometimes!

God’s Promise: You Are Not Alone

The good news is that Jesus said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren. (Luke:31-32)”

God will never leave you nor forsake you. God can use professionals to provide hope and encouragement, teach practical skills, and walk alongside you in times of need.

Christian Counseling vs. Secular Counseling

If you go to a secular counselor, they would very much provide empathy and understanding, but the guidance and perspective can be far from biblical values. They are unable to ground you with the Truth and the hope that only Jesus can provide; they would not be as well-versed with understanding your spiritual struggles.

Human beings have limitations, but an experienced and Christ-centered Christian counselor relies on His Spirit and grace for guidance in his or her daily walk.

“Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” - Proverbs 4:23

What to Expect in Christian Counseling

What should one expect in Christian counseling? We will pray with you and for you. Christian counselors will help find solutions with God’s help to cope with the challenges you are in and ground you with biblical Truth.

We will listen to your stories, learn about your goals, and help you understand your emotions and actions as they often exist for a reason. Emotions are one of the gifts from God. They give us information about how we see the world and ourselves, but God does not want us to live a life led by our emotions.

We all know that emotions and feelings can change drastically if we have ever seen a child act up!

Why We Feel Stuck Sometimes

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10

Feeling stuck and unproductive are common experiences for people seeking counsel. They look around and everyone seems to know what they are doing and are successful in what they do. It can be so helpful to find out that other people are struggling, too.

The Power of Community and Shared Experience

“I wish somebody had told me this earlier.” That is why testimonies and group therapy are so powerful. As the Bible says, “iron sharpens iron,” (Proverbs 27:17) and we can observe that God created communities as a crucial part of believers living out the kind of abundant life He called us to live.

In Christ, we are one body made up of many parts (1 Corinthians 12:12). Christian counselors can provide practical skills and walk with you as you practice those skills, such as coping with mental health conditions, thriving in your marriage, parenting, and managing day-to-day stress, so there will not be any barriers between you and the work that God created you to do.
