What is Biblically Based Counseling? | Firm Foundation Family Services
What does it mean to offer biblically-based counseling—and how is it different from Christian counseling or biblical (nouthetic) counseling?
In this video, Carrington from Firm Foundation Family Services explains the heart behind our approach to counseling and why we describe our work as scripturally or biblically based.
While “Christian counseling” is a broad term that can simply mean a counselor is a Christian, biblically-based counseling means our understanding of human nature, distress, and healing comes from God’s Word. We believe Scripture provides timeless wisdom for issues like anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship conflict.
At the same time, we don’t identify as “biblical” or “nouthetic” counselors—a specific certification that teaches the Bible alone is sufficient for every counseling issue. While we affirm the sufficiency of Scripture, our team also incorporates tools and insights from psychology, using them only when they align with biblical truth.
